Talk.com sold for $500,000
At a half million dollars, talk is still cheap. Talk.com sold over the past week at Sedo auctions for $500,000 to what looks like a domain investment company. This is the same company that recently bought contests.com from a befuddled Yahoo. I say befuddled because most domainers agree that the name could have brought 1 million quite easily, and Yahoo so poorly publicized the sale that it came as a surprise to much of the industry.
Contests is a clearly marketable keyword name, with a clear product that will always have demand. Contests are time-tested methods of gaining market share and interest.
Talk is not too bad, either. It is marketable, but it is almost generic. It is impossible to forget, and can be applied to any number of businesses. This buyer is likely ready to wait for that business to come along. Smart buy.
